Hi all. My 88 325is has been eating fuel pumps.
When I bought the car, the fuel pump was dead. The seller kindly replaced the pump, and the car started and I drove 100 miles home. The pump was very noisy, bu seemed to work ok. I got the car home and stripped it for the full respray and suspension overhaul and the pump stopped working. I put this down to a dud pump, as it was whiney.
Put another pump from a 318is in, and it died instantly. I put this down to the fact that it was the wrong pump.
I then got a pump from a 325is sent out from the UK, and it fired up straight away. Started the car maybe a dozen times, and now that pump is dead too. Test light shows power is getting to the pump, but no life.
It also ate 3 x H4 headlight bulbs. I know they worked when I drove the car home, but I discovered 3 of the 4 were dead today. Coincidence?
I really need this car to be reliable.
Does anyone have an idea why it's destroying pumps?
No decision is incorrect when made - but it does become apparent in retrospect...

You need to test the alternator output! Could be a dead regulator is allowing the alternator to overcharge.
