Diff question.... What is it????? Where's the tag?????

Got this diff which is just in the way, took it along with a load of other bits a few years back.
I'm sure the guy told me its a 3.91 LSD, so i kept it as a spare, but I can't find a tag on it!!!
Where should the tag be??
Any other way to tell what it is??

Also, it's quite hard to turn by hand, both outputs turn the same way (iirc) and it feels a bit rough!!!
So is it just scrap?? Or do they never turn smoothly by hand??
What's it worth??

Tag's on one of the bolts that hold the back plate on. If there's nowt there, just take the back plate off & post a pic if you don't know what a LSD looks like!

I'll have to clean up the back and have another look then!!!

If not, it'll have to wait until next week!! Didn't really wanna mess about opening it up, just wanted to get shot!!!

Is it gonna be for scrap/rebuild anyway if it's rough to turn by hand, or no way of telling 'till it's fitted up??

Sounds like a lsd by the way your turning it... To work out its ratio, mark top centre on one of the side parts and on the prop bit then turn the prop part, counting how many turns it takes to make a full circle on the side parts...

Nice one!! I'll try and get down to my garage again and have another look!!
I'll arm myself with a wire brush to try and find a tag - if not I'll go with the turn and count option for now!!!

Was always planning on having it rebuilt by someone when my current diff needed replacing, but am getting sick of tripping over it and need to clear some space!!

I suppose I could always have it rebuilt, put it on the touring (knowing it's 100%) and then sell the old lsd from the touring to get some of the rebuild money back!!!

Would love it, but not even 100% on keeping mine tbh!!! Even though I'm still buying bits and doing things on it all the time!!!

So if the diff sounds and feels a bit rough when turning by hand - due a rebuild?? Or no way of telling until it's on a car??
