Before I ask this I will say that I have searched through the technical thread for an answer to this, so I'm not just being lazy asking again. I might be being stupid :o: , but I'm not being lazy.

I have a 318i Touring, a '93, it has no front fog lights, so I picked up a set, plus relay etc. and went to fit them today. I sorted all the switch, wiring, relay, fuses no problem but I have a query about the easy bit - actually offering up the fog lights to the car. I have popped off the two coloured blanking plates in the front bumper, checked that I have sufficient length on the wire each side, and offered up the fog lights. They sit in a plastic frame with four holes, two at the top and two at the bottom. These holes correspond to four lugs on the car around the aperture for the fog light. Trouble is, if I put the fog light into place and push the four holes over the four lugs, it doesn't give me much of a connection - what I mean is, the whole assembly still feels loose in the hole, I don't think that the four lugs would hold the weight if I were driving. But I can't see any separate hole to enable me to use a nut and bolt or somethines. So my query is, am I missing something obvious? How do the fog light assemblies physically fix to the front of the car?

Apologies if this is a) a stupid question with an obvious answer or b) something that has been asked before and I just failed to find it.

Thank you in advance.

Thanks very much for that, guys - my kit didn't come with any self tapping screws, though, so guess that's a purchase for next week! Will pop outside and have another look under the car to try and see where the screws would go. So there will be four predrilled holes in the car on each side, then, presumably, to takes these screws? So I screw through the plastic surround to the fog light and into these predrilled holes? Thank you so much for the photo - the self tappers are the two slightly rusty heads in the bottom of the picture, yes?

Didn't get screws with the kit so didn't think to check for this :o:

Thank you for the responses.

Yes, the two rusty heads at the bottom, and two at the top.

The fitting holes for the brackets are about 8mm square, into which plastic lugs fit, into which the screws screw into......

Cheap enough from the dealers, remove the plastic tags for the blanks, insert the plastic replacements and screw the light into them.
I had the same when I fitted mine.
Currently slumming it in an E46 Touring

Thank you very much - and with hindsight apologies for calling them rusty lol.

Don't suppose you'd have a view on where I would get hold of eight screws..?

That's great, thank you - do you mean that a BMW main dealer would still stock the screws?

No, but they'll get them with 24 hours notice.
Personally, I'd get the plastic inserts from BMW, and some nice shiny stainless steel self tappers and washers of the right size from my local fasteners stockist.
