car: 1986 or 7 325i sport
problem: damp floor

Hi i know this is a common problem searched wiki google and the site and checked the elephant trunk its clear and carpet is out and there has been welding to the problematic areas to both foot wells and possibly a repair under the fuse box.

Water is still entering the foot wells. i have had a visual check and there is dribble . What i can narrow it down to is the heater blower as it is about 10mm away from the edge in the scuttle panel and when i pour water through the passenger side wiper vent it possible over flows into and around the blower. There has been some silicone put there by previous owner but i think its not sealing properly.

So my questions are is there a seal under the plastic blower casing that can perish and cause this leak and If so would this require the dash to be removed in order to replace the seal.

also do the front drainage pipes for sun roof just go into the sill. My passenger sill is slightly crushed and rusty will this be causing a water back log as the flow is compromised.

Thanks

I had a similar problem a few years back. Worth taking the glove box out as there is a grommet where all the wiring comes through. Mine rotted through there. Worth a look before you start ripping the dash out maybe?

The front sunroof drain pipes exit through the front inner wing, so that shouldn't cause a problem (unless its blocked, which it rarely is)Unfortunately there are loads of places on the front bulkhead for water to leak in, on the plus side though you will be able to find them from the outside without removing the dash. you will need to remove the glove box to see the passenger side bulkhead. Check behind the wheelarch liners and around the battery tray (if you have one in the front) Get underneath and have a poke with a screwdriver at the square plates. That's where you'll find it.
If it ain't broke..
Fix it till it is :)

glove box is off. i doubt its heater matrix coolant never needs toping up. it leaks around heater blower under the scuttle panel.

Wiper spindle seal? this problem and solution was found by "powelly". Drop him a PM and ask him for a part number. See that it's the only access point for rain water directly above the blower motor.

It's one of the parts here.

Hope that helps.

Is the rubber drain from the scuttle panel blocked by chance?
