Hi,
I'm doing the 2.7 build from my 2.0 now the 525e block has a none toothed pluse wheel on the crankshaft and my 320 block does.
Obviously I'm using some parts from the 320 to build I just wondered what the difference is (apart from the teeth!)
Any ideas?

The difference is in the engine management system.
The plain front pulley matches the earlier management, fitted to chrome bumper E30.
Toothed wheel is the later, and more effiecient, system fitted to plastic bumper cars.
As you build your engine up,it needs to look like the one you took out of your car,to make your life easier!
I would suggest the later management system, with a chip swap in the ECU.
Gunni(see trader's section)or Ant at A-Tec will be able to supply a suitable chip.
Also, bear in mind that water pumps and hose layout differs between the two versions of engine, once again, using the type from the original engine will make things much easier to connect up.

Thanks mate, I was a bit worried until I noticed its only held on by 6 bolts. Worried it might have been behind the main crank nut.
Sorted. Nice one re the water pump as well. I heard somewhere that you should use the right one for the engine, which engine! I suppose the later type used on my 320 is the one to use. That was replaced last year so I'll reuse it I reckon.

I got caught out with the waterpump when I built mine up,it's far easier to swap before the engine goes in!monkeyboy1979 wrote:Thanks mate, I was a bit worried until I noticed its only held on by 6 bolts. Worried it might have been behind the main crank nut.

When I transfered my 2.7 into the cabbie,it was sat on the garage floor for about two weeks.....I needed to replace the waterpump about a month after starting to use the car,my feeling was that with no coolant to keep it lubricated, the shaft had grown a rust spot....
Do not forget to mount the bracket for the crank position sensor, and a new clip to mount it's cable properly behind the fan pulley will keep the wire undamaged.

Ah, excellent point re not running/no coolant. For the sake of 30 squid its not worth the risk I suppose.
Gonna take the box off the old motor today and check the clutch out. Might be worth coughing up for a new one of those I suppose as well along with all the gubbins.
Pelican parts have a complete kit with new flywheel bolts etc, why is there no one over here doing that?

I pondered about the clutch,but resisted,it's still there,50k later!
Flywheel bolts are a 'must have',though.

Just got the clutch off and I can't believe that it appears to be the original clutch? Stamped 11/88 which is the cars build?!
There is only 8mm left so I best fork out for a new one me thinks.
I haven't got an air impact wrench, how the hell do you get the flywheel bolts off!
