According to RealOEM the lower bolt that secures the shocks on my prefacelift 325 cab is no longer available. Having tried to source an M12x1.5x65 with no joy, can anyone tell me whether an M12x1.5x60 will do the job? Next size up I can find is an 80, which looks rather long. Any suggestions?

Cheers,

Tim

They do have quite a long thread, but I'm not sure I'd be very happy about losing 5mm of it. Also you should bare in mind that the original bolt has an un-threaded section on which the the shock rests, probably not agood idea to put a fully threaded bolt in its place.

Why not just go to a scrappy or put a wanted add up in here ?

I paid a couple of quid for two 60s today: they are unthreaded where the shock sits, but as you say they will be 5mm shorter.

If I'm going to a scrappy I may as well just re-use the ones already on there (assuming they come off in one piece!).

A tip for refitting though - I always threadlock the bolts, and tighten them with the car on the ground and suspension settled. I've had a couple where the bolts loosen off, even though they were torqued correctly - basically as the car settles and the suspension compresses, the shocker inner steel bush turns anticlockwise and can loosen the bolt a touch.
