Hey guys
i bought my first e30 on saturday and i love it although the suspension makes it drive like a boat..
What true coilover options do i have?
I only want to spend around the 500/600 mark as its only for street use but i want maximam adjustability for height and rebound..
Now ive noticed rpm do a deal for e30zone members on the gaz units but why do you have to send of your front shocks? are they standerd e30 shocks modified by gaz? and they dont come with top mounts for adjustabiltiy so if i went down the rpm gaz route itll cost me more for the mounts..
ive been looking at D2's and bc coilovers.. who have used this on there e30s? i know there was bad reviews about d2's a few years back due to oil leaks and hard ride but apparently that has been sorted out now

not herd much about bc coilovers but they look well built and i have read a few happy reviews on the internet

my 3rd option will be to run e36 hsd coilovers and do a e36 conversion while im at it but what else will i need to complete the e36 conversion?
thanks matty
What coilovers for my e30?

If your car handles like a boat sort the bushes out first! More than likely these will need replacing, particularly rear subframe bushes, trailing arm bushes and front control arm bushes.
For the E36 setup, you will need E36 Compact coliovers but you may need to change the springs on the front if your E30 is 6 cylinder. You'll need eccentric e30 M3 front control arm bushes, E36 M3 Evo (post '96) front control arms and kingpins. On the rear, you'll need E36 compact or Z3 rear trailing arms and (as I recently found out!!) diff output flanges. You may need offset top mounts if you go full coilover on the rear to stop the spring fouling the shock tower and you would be wise to reinforce the shock tower as it is not designed for taking all the weight of the car, cornering forces etc.
You may also need some archwork doing to fit wheels. If you are using E36 M3 brakes, they are only some 16" wheels that they will fit underneath, either through inner diameter or offset. Lowering the car on 17's with the extra track offered by the E36 setup will most likely need at least an arch roll.
