Lock cylinder
Moderator: martauto
I just bought a reapir kit for my drivers door lock cylinder, reason being that is different to the rest of the car, looks reasonably straight forward albeit fiddly, does anyone know if you can build the cylinder to the key or do I need to strip out another cylinder to get the numbers from the relevant tumbler.
Le Mans Classic 2006Lock room at bmw is apparently a bit hopeless at the moment
i can understand that ...
just have to do it the way you are
its not hard just fiddly and time consuming
put some grease on the barrel when your building it .stops the little brass sleeves from falling out

good write up Dave D explains it good
one thing he didnt mention is if you split the lock one section further up you dont have to mess with the mechanism and the little ball
spot on with the tumblers though
and thats a left hand door lock

I have read that, it's a very good write up, to be honest both locks are out of the car at the moment anyway so it may be quick to just strip down the passenger barrell to get the number.
Le Mans Classic 2006the numbers are on the tumblers
usually one ,two three,four
you need to match the tumblers with positions on the barrel .i cant ever remember seeing a key number on the barrel
if you have both locks out its easy money
i am back in the UK in a couple of days and i will send you a pm with my number .you can give us a shout if you get in a bind
usually one ,two three,four

Don't forget the inner most tumblers have a smaller tab, keep them the same as iff you put the normal ones in you won't be able to take the key out in the deadlock position
