Anyone know where I can get a pair of front wings for my CONVERTIBLE E30...? BMW are expensive direct obviously and I didnt realise there appear to be no patent parts for them, anyone help point me in the right direction, or am I going to have to pay the max, car is due for a respray in a couple of weeks!

Thanks!

Depends on just where your existing wings have rusted....

Cabbie wings have a special, cabbie only, section covering the forward end of the deeper, cabbie only sill. This bit is spot-welded on to a cut down standard wing, then this join is covered by a cabbie only lower rubbing strip.

So if the rust is just in this lower section, most skilled body men will enjoy the challenge of making one from a off cut of steel sheet, perhaps an hours work.

If the rot is elsewhere,or perhaps a dent above this line, then a stock pattern wing can be adapted to fit by cutting off the lower cill section and spotwelding the bit from your existing wing in it's place.
Youth is wasted on the young.

Or just buy a good pair of used original cabby wings.... I have a pair.

The welding doesn't have to be anything pretty, as the join is hidden by a trim piece on the outside.

Cheers for the responses, as sods law would have it one side has got a hole the size of a fist below the line and some *@&% hit the other side when the car was parked and then buggered off!

As its technically a cost saving exercise, going down that route would probably not save me any money over buying the originals from BMW.

New to this site so will get pictures up of the rebuild soon as possible!

Theo - I have PM'd you.

Thanks all!

John.
