Hi guys,
I bought a lightweight flywheel quite a while back, i am now putting it onto a M52 lump. I need to know if its pre facelift or facelift as the starter motors are different i'm told.
Any experts know how to tell them apart?
many thanks!

interesting... i have been looking on ebay for an M20 starter to use with the conversion and there are two diff types.... i went on to ring a company who told me i had to know what year my flywheel was from... these are the two diff ones on Ebay.

So if theres no diff in the flywheel it must be the fitment to the box? If this is the case do you know which one will bolt straight up to the M52 box?

The difference is in the terminals and provision for the unloader relays, not in the actual motor and its drive gear, although very early original motors are physically too large to fit the M52.
Go for a facelift M20 starter.
