I have a code reader that my dad uses on his porsche to determine whatever is wrong with a car if something is wrong.. I don't know how it works or if a check engine light needs to be on for something to be "reported" wrong on a cars ecu..? I wanted to know where I could plug it in a 1991 318is???

My gas mileage is horrible! So while were at it how do I reset my ecu all together and reprogram for its actual condition?? I heard something about draining batterie then starting car and redlining then turning off for 5 mins then redline again then normal driving??? THANKSSSS

I have never heard of this and it sounds implausible. What do you mean by 'reset the ecu'?

Hi,

Think what you are talking about is something mentioned in other posts. Not sure how complex the e30 ECU is, in the states they have a mech to get the error codes out of the ECU. Over here I don't think we have anything like that.

One post mentioned using a Snap On device, but that costs about 3k :)

I'm sure the guys here will back me up and say that the system is pretty simple.
