Diff seal
Moderator: martauto
I have just replaced a diff seal going to drive shaft for passenger wheel. I yanked the old one out forgetting to note how far in it is positioned. I have the new one in so far that the outside face of the seal is even with where the smooth bore of the cylinder reveals itself. Is this far enough in ?

It doesn't matter that much in theory, but your drive flange will probably have some rust on it, where the seal sits, from the back of the actual flange, in as far as where the old seal has polished the shaft. If the new seal isn't in as far as the old, and the new seal lip is on the corroded bit, it won't last long.
