DO IIIIIIIIT!

Unless you start being 'sensible', & then a m50 swap starts to look like a better idea than spending loads on the m20...

You are going to need some trumpets/air horns as well

Looks like you will need the trumpets either way, if you use sock filters these fit over the trumpets and if you use a plenum and external filter you still need the trumpets.

Its a shame because i've just promised these sock filters to Si :(

sock filters are rubbish and will rob you of power..

any filter directly over the trumpets/velocity stacks will rob you of power but it will increase engine longevity quite substantially.

Even with engine oil changes every 1000-1500 miles you will get accellerated piston ring, bearing and valve seat wear from all the crap thats getting in your engine.

Power or reliability?

The compromise is to get a properly sized plenum ( the volume does matter), with trumpets/velocity stacks in the plenum at the beginning of the intake runners and slap a filter on the end of the plenum. The turbulence of the air entering the filter will have smoothed out by the time it reaches the trumpets/velocity stacks.

Serious question , Has anyone actually fitted throttle bodies and seen power and torque gains across the board or is it just a way of spending loads of time and Ԛ£1500 to make your engine look nice ?

Johonno, there's an english mag called Practical Performance Car which has done some features on both fitting bike throttle bodies and also making a home brew EFI system. Website is www.ppcmag.co.uk so you may find some useful stuff on there.

I am aware of a company called Bogg Bros who are not too far from me, near Scarborough, they are grass track racing lads but have become experts with the bike tb conversions, they are well regarded and when I spoke to them I was quoted a turn key price of Ԛ£700 to put mine on bike tb's. I'm sure a bit of internet searching would bring up their contact details, don't think they have a website though.

As far as fabrication of a plenum chamber is concerned, there's a company called Altiss Engineering who specialist in aluminium welding and one off fabircations such as this. A quick google search will probably bring up their website and contact details.

I am unsure as to overall power gains etc, I am led to believe a tb conversion will certainly give you an instant throttle response but in terms of outright power I am not 100%.
