Standard mounts in good condition are well up to the job, especially if the engine mounts are fitted with the current spec. metal cups around them.

The cups are a seperate item Numbers 12 (stopper / Cup) and number 7.

Genuine BMW mount will take all the abuse you can throw at them. Some ECP of GSF cheapies will not.

As long as you keep all the M20 oil leaks away from them!

Is that engine mount cup a retrofit? I can't recall seeing them fitted with M20 engine mounts in the past.

Hockey pucks have been used as an uprated mount.

Also I've heard of MK2 Escort mounts being used.

Or even Landrover Mounts?

The mount/cup is new, ordered some for mine that's got a M30 going in it, it can't weigh more than that :P

JUst out of interest, what do the cups do?

i expected them to be a snug fit around the rubber, but theres a 10mm gap all the way around

i really cant see them giving any benefit at all unless the mount fails

Thanks for the info, I won't be investing in them.

I posted this a while back. . .

I've read that M20 E21 gearbox mounts are the same size, slightly firmer and more robust than E30 ones. Engine mounts are worth looking at too. There's a cheap upgrade available from www.burtonpower.co.uk that I use search for fp292

i did have the idea of putting the mounts in the cups and filling the void with silicone

i'm sure this would improve the situation
