Hi all, just a quick question, are the areas above the Headlight & fog Switches, as shown in the pic, supposed to illuminate with the side lights on?

Cheers :D

These should be lit up all the time. Lights on or off.

To be pedantic "These should be lit up all the time when the ignition is on. Lights on or off."
Light switch needs to be illuminated before the lights are on so that you can find the light switch in the dark to turn them on!

I reckon if you have left it that late to turn the lights on you deserve not to find the switch!

I've re-arranged mine so they are on with the lights on,less chance of leaving the lights on when I come in from work at 3am that way.

Me neither, couldn't find one on ETK. Mine doesn't illuminate either, hence my original post.

again to be pedantic there are two bulbs to replace!

remove the cover under the steering wheel / steering column area.

look behind the switch and you will find the two bulbs directly behind the part you have circled, the bulb holders only push into a hole so they fall out quite easy, given that you have already removed the cluster my guess is you bulb holders have fallen out and are hanging down above the bonnet release.

Just the one bulb on any E30 I've come across, Lee. I think you may be confusing it with the bulbs for the headlamp levelling control.

Just had a quick look, headlight level switch has 2 bulbs. I can't see any other bulb that have come loose, how does the switch panel come out? Is it bolted from the inside?

Headlamp switch panel is held in by some small nuts, but it doesn't need to be removed to change the bulb.
Bulb and holder are between and above the headlamp switch and the fog light switch, and just pulls straight out.
If you can't get your head underneath enough to see, try pushing out the fog light switch and look in through the hole.

Having read this thread I've just realised my bulb must have died before I bought the car 9 years ago. Can anyone tell me which bulb I need to buy for it. Ebay link?

Thanks in advance,

G

I got some today from the Dealers, Part No.61.13.8.360.844, cost about £1.15 each. They told me they are the same as E36 Headlight Switch Bulbs. They are 0.36w Capless Bulbs

Just dug mine out of the car ... mine is a 1.2w capless.
Search on Ebay for 1.2w 286 bulb ... about 2 quid for 10.

Hope that helps,

G
