hi guys

is there a how to on how to do the back main bushes for the rear subframe (think thats right) my ones on my e30 are shot have new ones thought i would ask on here so i have a bit of a head start incase there is a propper way of doing them. i have seen tools on ebay but there like £100 + 8O can they be done with out it??

Don't bother without the special tool. Or make one yourself using a long threaded rod and strong cup shaped attachments. It's such a pain to do that unless you have lots of tools it's easier to get a garage to do it for you.

might be a investment as i have 2 e30's and my mate has a 525i and i have a few other friends pluss if we car do it right i could do a few members on here a faver or to :D

cracked on last night didn't get to far as the genrator didn't run the compressor :( so take 2 tomorrow evning will update when done :cool:

use the search function there are loads of people that have done this in the last few months and there is probably pictures still of the tool i made to fit these bushes

one thing i found a complete git was the two allen key bolts on the sill that hold the plate for the subframe on, if you can i would try to make sure you can undo them a bit before you strip the whole back end off and get stuck with loads of rounded off cheap allen keys like i did, you may be able to undo the front one and spin the plate around to clear but may not, all the best with it.

I used the same method to do the rear bushes on an Audi A4 avant last week to which was nice only took half a day to do

If the cap bolts holding the lower plate give grief, grind them off, then remove the welded nuts on the back as well. Refit using new cap bolts and nuts, or ordinary nuts and bolts.
The biggest problem with this job is removing all of the old bushes. Fitting the new is relatively easy and pain free.

thanks guys

the alan key bolts come undone easy with a good fitting alan key socket and a bit of spray the night before :) we should be cracking on to night my mate has done a fair few of them,

fingers crossed air chizel ftw :D will get some pictures etc of how we get on

liking the home made press tool mate may well give tha a go :)

update

axil still on car exhaust etc still on and passanger side is out press new one in tomorrow then go for the drivers side one air chizzel is for the win 8) i have tro atmit my friend did do the air chizzeling part and i jusat made thew tea's :o:

I tend to make the tea too - it's what I'm best at. Good luck with the other side.
