i recently had my 325 converted to manual but ever since the cruise control no longer works. A friend of mine said it only works with automatic gearboxes, is this true?

No not true, Most likley left out the switch on the brake pedal.
M30 Tech 1 Touring on gas.

It's almost certain that the clutch switch hasn't been fitted, but this won't stop the cruise working - it just won't switch off when you press the clutch, leading to an engine potentially bouncing off the rev limiter!
Absolutely no reason why the cruise shouldn't be working as before. Tell whoever did the conversion to finish the job properly.
