A friend recently bought a 1991 318i that has the wrong exhaust fitted - no cat and the AFM doesn't have a mixture adjuster. Would an earlier unit with mixture control function ok or is a pre cat ECU needed as well.
Any info would be appreciated.

The later AFM should have a potentiometer on it for mixture control, but if the car originally had a lambda sensor it won't be connected to anything.
Under the bulkhead wiring cover, near the middle, there is a plug and socket with a white/black wire connected to each part. This plug and socket will not be plugged together, so just need pushing together to connect the pot.
