Hi,

Just trying to figure out what tyres to change to...currently I have about 3 different types on the car and they're all getting a bit low.

So time for a new set then!

I'm looking to spend around £40-60 and the wheels are 14".

My choices seem to be -

Firestone TZ200

Toyo Proxes CF1

Yokohama A.Drive

Toyo 350

And the budget choice - Kumho KH17

So what are you guys running, and what would you recommend?

Cheers:)

Not many of us still runnung 14"s !!!

I bought a set of Hankook Optimo in 14" last year (just because they were at a knock down price).

I didn't have much to compare them with because till then the car had been run on part worn mix and match rubbish, but they are certainly sufficient for me.

I drive my chromie more like a classic than a sports car, but when I do "push the envelope" theri behaviour is predictable if not perfect.
The wet weather grip seems to be suprisingly good and they are nice and quiet too.

I'd buy another set, especially if they came up cheap again.

I'd buy the cheapest you can.

Do you really drive that fast? If so why are you running 14's?

I bought a set of 14" bbs from here and they came with virtually new "Maxis" tyres .
They are good in the wet and also the dry and were superb in the snow last season.(up to a point) 195 / 65 x14"
Dont know how cheap they are.

Mart.
Only the E46 cab left now.
Just got too old.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm sort of leaning towards the Hankook Optimo K715's as I've read a few good reviews on them...will see how cheap I can get them or the Yokohama A Drives...gah!

I dunno, I guess I'll probably buy whatever mid-high range tyre is on offer.

@chu346, to a certain extent you are right, but there is also the safety and comfort factor. And sometimes I do drive spiritedly and want to be able to keep the thing on the road!

I've always bought the cheapest tyres I could find that aren't remoulds and never had a problem. I drove rather fast most of the time when I had my 318i turbo and my 2.7. You've only got a 320i, I really don't think you need anything that good.

How about these?

I don't get your argument, just because it's a lower powered car it doesn't mean you can't hoon around B roads and be left with a grin on your face - if you were in a 325 you wouldn't be able to go round corners any faster!

And I don't really feel comfortable just getting the cheapest tyres I can off the bay, they're the only thing hold me onto the road and I'd feel better knowing I'd got something with a proven track (or road) record.

Thankyou for your advice, and I will take it into account..maybe have a look at some more budget tyre reviews and see if I can save a bit.

The problem with tyres that have been previosuly fitted to a vehicle is that if it's been stood they're probably deformed, regardless of the amount of tread left. You can't tell this by looking either and once you've forked out it's too late.

New tyres only for me, unless its for the spare.

If you can get to Costco, their Michelin Energy Savers in that size are £49 (a few pennies less) each, including balancing, new valves &c.

I can't see toyo t1r's for 195/65 r14's :(. Although I've heard you can fit some different tyres to the e30? Like 205/55 r14's?
