I have just been looking on realoem at the e46 compact 318ti and as far as i can tell the REAR wheel hub and bearing size are exactly the same as the e30's...

Would this by any chance be a cheaper alternative to the e36 m3 front arms set up...

still using e36 compact rear arms would be cheap enough too.

If any one can advise that would be great

The bearing is definately the same one the e30, will that mean the hub will be a straight fit? Surely???

Are you saying fit the rear bearing onto the front strut?

Not sure about the E46, but the E36 compact runs 2 sizes (ti is the larger of the 2 and is the same as an E30 325i) and iirc the smaller compact bearing is the same as the E30 with rear drums (Don't quote me on this, has been a while!

Real oem does not give enough information to check as it does not give enough information but and what is the od of a e30 front strut, also the hub facev may sit out further and it designed to be bolted up to a slpine end

these posts are some what confusing rear hubs are interchangeable but the offsets vary there are no original BMW hubs in 5 stud that fit the standard e30 and front and rear hubs are totally different

ok, I can see the confusion

I am aware that the e36 compact rear trailing arms are a direct fit to e30's... cool, no probs

And it seems that the fronts arent gonna be suited to anything readily available.

Maybe if the e36 hub had the splines mill'd out to fit the e30 front? Or am I looking for a white elephant

Is my only option for the m3 e36 front arms?

even if you mill out the splines it wont work you really need to see a front hub, the hub and bearing are a one piece unit the bearing is not removable. there are other ways but none are simple. if you want a cost effective way i would purchase e28 front hubs and have a sleeve made as well as a new nut the sleeve would have to be a press fit and then you would still need to work out the brakes
