Got round to fitting my VDO gauges today, managed to blow fuse 28 in the process...looked this up, covers cigarette lighter (just where I was working!) and electric aerial.
Anyway, replaced the fuse, all good, but can someone please explain why the car wouldn't start without fuse 28 (30 amp)??

Sorry if I am being a numpty, I don't get it.

Has your car got an alarm or immobiliser? Could be that the cigarette lighter feed was easiest to get to to fit / power an alarm and therefore the alarm has a protection feature whereby if power is removed from the alarm module the immobiliser kicks in and stops you starting the car.

If this is the case, it's probbably worth you carrying a spare 30 amp fuse, if you don't already!

Fuse 28 has no relevance to the car starting or not as regards the standard wiring, so the above theory seems feasible!
