Hi all,
I've been sorely tempted to retrofit chrome bumpers on my Tourer, ever since I came across a few such conversions on the web.
Is this easily done? What does it involve?
My bumpers are a bit dodgy anyways, and since the ease of sourcing bits for each version seems pretty much indifferent, I might go for a chrome set when I get round to doing up the aesthetics.
One other question: the side mouldings on the doors are glued on or is there any other method of placement? If I retrofit the bumpers, I'd like to replace these to match.
Cheers, Eddie

If it is just the bumper's and no kit then you will need to remove the bracket's from the plastic bumper and spot weald to the chrome one, Or make new mounting hole's for the one's on the chrome bumper to go through. You will need convertible end's (the rubber bit's) so that is flush with the arch, and get creative with the side bumper mount's. I made a new hole and a self tapper and lock washer.
Job done.
Job done.
Time to drag this thread from the depths!
It seems that quite a few people are at least interested in doing this conversion - I'm planning to chrome bumper my touring also and I thought it might be a good idea to get all the knowledge onto one thread...
I had a good talk with Gooner1 today about it and it seems that cabby bumpers (at least the rears) are slightly different and are too long for the touring rear end, so I assume you need a 2 or 4 door rear bumper and the little rubber bits off the ends of the cabby bumper.
The front seems like a simple bolt on job if you switch the valance over also...Again we're not sure if the cabby front bumper is different from the 2 and 4 door bumpers...any clarification?
In terms of the tech 1 kit, it sounds like the rear valance needs to be cut and welded to give the required clearance. Nelly's thread has some nice pictures with gaping holes!
Anyways, any pictures, instructions, experience etc. would be very welcome. I'd eventually like to put all of this together in a wiki type entry.
Oh and this is the thread on retro rides that inspired the sudden longing for chrome!
