Could be many reasons.
Can you test the car a little more? Does it brake on low gear? Does it slip in reverse? Can you hear a weird noise when you get this problem? When you have the problem does it affect reverse?
If reverse works when forward doesn't problem would be A clutch pack, if not it's simple you need to change filter and oil.
Also when warm put it in all gears then park again then check oil. Could also be low on oil.

Should be full when hot.
I suggest that you change the filter and oil. Not a bad idea to do this anyway, what color is the oil? Should be clear red.

Don't do what my ex boss did, topping up the auto 'box on a 4.6 range rover is done with it idling in drive and the Muppet blipped the throttle from under the bonnet while stood in front of it :hammer:

Yeh figured it out in the end... but now i have a problem :(..
I took the car for a drive and when i sit on idle its fine but when i put the car into drive or reverse the revs climb to about 2k so the car bangs into gear and sends me flying... also the "i" light is on :(
