cleaning pistons

Hey everyone, im rebuilding the m40 engine and need to clean up the pistons as it was burning oil and the pistons have got lots of carbon deposits on them, what can i use to clean the pistons ?as i haven't got a parts washer

I used a seaweed wheel then I sanded it with 400 up to 2000 grot on the top.... The sides of the piston should only be cleaned with some scotchbrite though do not touch them with anything but scotchbrite...
if you go to an engineering shop. they would clean it with there baths etc. it would get in to the oil galleries etc. so would end up being super clean. and it shouldnt cost more than 10-15 quid.
i'd try leaving the carbon on the top of the piston, helps with compression!
