Guys, have sold my 325i Touring - the one that just went on Ebay as it has a problem ruinning when hot. It started no worries at the weekend, went to start it today - nothing, and I mean NOTHING!

No igntion lights, no nothing! Checked all fuses etc. I have sold it as a non runner but I did say it started, now t doesnt! :x

Any ideas? Obviously electrical, but where do I look? Any common issues - does this sound familiar to anyone?

Help MUCH appreciated!!

Cheers,

Tom.

Battery flat?

do the headlights come on?

If not, charge the battery and hope it keeps the charge until someone comes and picks it up!

try jump starting it, if it jump starts, then your battery is most probaly dead.

Sorry should have said - not the battery, I have tried a perfect one from my 2dr 325i and it made no difference. Tried jump starting it before I did that.

Symptoms would suggest a flat battery, although in my exprience you always get a little life out of the dash lights even if for only 2 seconds - the car has zero power to it!

Its an auto so I can even push start it!

i don`t have much knowledge of touring models but on 325 saloon model there is an 80amp inline fuse thats about a foot from the end of the battery terminal,
check that and check you are getting power up to fusebox

Get a multimeter and trace from the battery backwards, test the top of the +ve on the battery (proof test), check the big system fuses at the fusebox (pull them out and stick the meter in one of the holes, check both holes as I dunno which side is tied to the incoming) replace each fuse as you check them as if the main one isn't in, nothing will register past that. As you have no power at all it has to be something either before or at the fusebox itself.

Once/if you find the problem there and it is a fuse gone, the next really important question to ask yourself is: why did it blow?..

Using a meter will give false readings on an unloaded circuit.
Think simple. A 5W 12V lamp omn a couple of pieces of wire are all you need.
An old front indicator repeater is perfect for the job.
