Alrite guys, ran into some diffs :o:

TFR'd the engine bay and powerwashed it on saturday to show the car on sunday.
I covered up the airfilter with a plastic bag.
When i went to start it again, she sounded fine, i let it tick for a while then rev-ed it a few times.
Then she went all lumpy, off a cylinder !

I checked all pots were getting a spark and they are ..
Nailed it to cylinder No.2 thats not firing, the rest are ok ..
Bought all new spark plugs and fitted them ..
No.2 injector is clicking away so its getting electric and fuel ..
Tested HT leads and swapped them around, still No.2 thats not firing ..
Done a compression test and No.2 is on par with 1 & 3 ok ..
Took off full ignition wirring harness, put it into a hot and dry area for 2 days ..
Cleaned and inspected distributer cap, dressed contacts, squirk of WD40 ..

I took it to the show anyway and that was a good 80 mile round trip so shes had plenty of time to dry out and come in if she was going to.

Stumped here lads, shes getting fuel, a spark and its not mechanical from what i can see .

Could she be over fueling?
The No2. plug does seem a little drenched in juice when i take it out, but then again , that could be the norm since its not firing ..

Any help or pointers much appreciated guys .....

Cheers ...........

If you've changed the sparks and there is sill no joy, it could be a short or tracking problem on the no.2 lead or in the dizzy cap or if you drive it like you stole it as all E30's should be you may have dropped a rocker it's common on hard driven m20's as the design of the rocker is poor at best, as it's no.2 you should be able to shine a torch through the oil filler cap and see with out taking the rocker cover off to see

I covered up the airfilter with a plastic bag.
If that's all you covered up, then i'm not surprised it's running rough.
It,s best to cover all electricals when "power washing" the engine bay.
Look at the dizzy for any water ingress, then work you're way through everything else.

Just a quickie you can change the rockers without lifting the head or removing the cam belt, you have to remove the front grill and rad dizzy cap and jiggle the engine but if it saves disturbing gaskets it's worth it and GSF also sell the rockers and cams for around £10.

Reved it out twice since i put it in, and just for a sec , thats when it went all slugish ..

Aye, the rocker shaft is nearly ready to try and shift.

Ive a feeling tho that its gona be a nitemare too, as ya cant drift it out

The cam belts off tho, as ya need space for the shaft to slide out.

Gona put a new timing belt and water pump in it anyway.

Turn the crankshaft 30 degrees back from the TDC timing mark, so that all the pistons are part way down the bores, and in no danger of contacting valves.
Remove all of the locating clips from the rockers on the side in question, and back off, or even remove, all the adjuster eccentrics.
By refitting the cam pulley, and rotating the cam (use the old belt to grip it), you should be able to find a point where all the rockers in turn come loose. When they are free, push them sideways so that they are clear of the valves. With all the rockers free, the shaft should slide out without much force.
