So .. here it goes.... I ordered a performace chip for my 316i Touring ECU end number 989 from german ebay. Installed it and let it run at idle for 10 min. from cold and after that i swiched it off (i didn`t drove the car). It ran rough but i tought that the ECU was "learning" from the chip and will settle down. Today i went for a drive. Started the car(still runing rough and smelling rich ) and drove it normal about 10miles without feeling any improvment from the tuned chip (a bit more smooth under 2000RPM but not more). Went back home. The engie was hot but it still ran rich, i shuted off the engine and turned on again and i heard something knocking for 3-4 sec and it idled verry bad (600RPM). Turned it off and never started again. Also the economy gauge dosen`t work after installing the new chip. What should i do? I am afraid not to damage the engine or the o2 sensor and cat i have installed from running rich. I contacted the seller of the chip and it guided me to disconnect the AFM and see if it will run better. What do you guys think? Could it be a wrong chip? Will it be safe runing it more withoud damaging the catalythic converter? Can anyone clear me out? Thanks

My advice would be to put back the original chip and leave it. Anyone who says removing the AFM will improve the way the engine runs doesnt give me confidence.

Nice Chip.
It is over fueling AND excessively advancing the ignition.
Remove before you wash the bores and/or hole a piston.

Thank you for the answers. The seller said to disconnect the afm plug to see if that is the worng part that is causing a bad idle but the car had a preety good idle (except little juddering from time to time but nothing serious) I think i will remove the chip before the engine blows and live with the stock one. I`ll go and see for the last time, maybe i connected wrong the plug on the ECU or something and give it another go. Thank you for your help guys, Good luck

Wrong chip dude

the original had a part number on the silver label, the new one must be a modded version of the SAME chip software version, they are not cross compatable
Product Development and Endurance for Delphi.

Original performance chips, original works not unlicensed copies :D Email FTW

+1 on this Tommek - they sent you a chip for the wrong ECU. The chip may or may not be useless, but it's not correct for your car. Ask them for your money back. If they won't do it, use the e-bay dispute process.

Had similar issues with a MarkD chip, though no-where near as bad as yours.

Thanks for the advice guys. I e-mailed the seller already, he asked the number of the stock chip and he sayed it will have a look in the files and if he finds something wrong he will burn another one and send it to me. The only thing he mentioned is to disconnect AFM and see if it runs better but i am convinced that the chip is the problem. Here is the website of the company in case someone knows anything about them www.ts-chiptuning.de but i think they`re preety bad if this kind of things happen to the customers. Thank you again guys ... Take care.

Oh.. and another thing ... how much will i have to run the car if i install a new chip? It should work great at first start-up? thanks
