Hi there.

Can anyone help identify a couple of odd bits please

Image

I think someone has fitted an extra alarm but I have no idea how it works

I think its activated by the switch under the steering wheel but i'm not going to switch it in case something nasty happens

The buttony thing above and left of the temp dial looks like either a microphone or speaker and the plastic slab under the temp sliders seems to be the main body of "it"

Any help will be most appreciated

Thanks

9 times out of 10 they are fake but i would rip it all out and fit a half decent alarm. cash permittin of course as 4 the switch i would also trace the wiring back and find out what it does poss after market light switch ie fog or home made imobliser

Hi,

The button thing above left of the temp control is where the temp sensor for your climate control hides behind. All E30's have them (Button thing, not climate control...)

The large slab of plasic is a ultrasonic alarm sensor. Looks cheap and nasty, rip it out!

as for the switch, trace the wiring through and see where it goes!

Now then,

Switch was a live feed to the electric aerial and bypassed the wiring loom feed - Why??????????

Alarm thingie is a ZADI?????? sensor unit which had been connected to a siren mounted under the cold feed inlet though the siren had been disconnected from the loom plugs, and a couple of the terminals in one plug has been bridged. the siren is now out but the loom is still there running from the front left of the engine bay back into the bulkhead - it will be stripped out soon.

The wiring under the glovebox looks like a rat family has been nesting and breeding decades and the main ecu would appear to have been moved from its mounting and left dangling in mid air! - again to be sorted out soon.

Problem is, I made sure any wires showing bare were well wrapped and insulated and not touching anything else before rebuilding the glovebox, the car started and ran fine, but now my electric mirrors have stopped working!

Anyone got any clues?

Cheers,

Angus
