Not sure what the problem is, but after about an hour, or 30mins if palying a CD the stereo sound goes really really quite. It also did this with the original stereo (cassett player), can anyone help.

Has it got some kind of mute facility that is triggered somehow?

Usually its the cleaning of the head/lazer unit that causes this kind of problem though.

Is the wiring modified in any way? Do you use a non-BMW headunit? The E30 wiring uses a unique system of combined grounds for the speakers that may cause such problems as you described.

Maybe you can post the used components in your car.

Hi jenad
It is a non BMW unit, but I had the same problem on the original Blapunkt stereo that was fitted with the E30(i have not changed the speakers).
Shall i check the ground?

What kind of Blaupunkt was mounted? There are some HU needing some kind of adapter. Even if you don`t understand german, you may have a look here. The pics could be interesting...

Which year was your car made?

Anyway, the following solutions would surely solve the problem:

Rewiring the speakers only.

Using a special adapter which galvanic seperates the grounds. Available at car-hifi stores or ebay.

If your car has a premium sound system, the amp can be by-passed.
