ERRATIC IDLE 3251 SPORT
Moderator: martauto
Any suggestions? Done the usual. Cleaned idle valve, carb cleaner in air flow meter. The previous owner said it was chipped, but the tickover is more like a harley davidson then a bm. The engine is in good shape, just had top end rebuild. HELP!

bad idle is usually down to air leaks after the airflow meter. i had this problem on my 320i and my sport. i replaced the big rubber boot that joins the airflow meter to the throttle body and this solved the problem both times. If its been chipped you'll find the car idles at higher revs than normal (my 320i idled at 900rpm instead of 600 after i fitted the chip) but it should not make the idle erratic.
i suppose it could be your Idle control valve but check for air leaks first.
