This is probably in the wrong section but I couldn't see a section for restoration tips.
I've got a very rusty rear axle and trailing arms that I want to bring back to new before putting them back on the car.
Is sand/media blasting and powder coating the best option?

Lol, I'm really not sure what the other options are though! Apart from, wire brush and a tin of hammerite! Fine for my old track car, bit crude for the M3!blitz877 wrote:its probably one of the better options mate

blasting would be preferred here as I did a bit of a DIY resto on my rear beam and trailing arms, but the wire brush can't get into the trailing arm mounting points properly, so you'll never clear all the rust out.
I then just used some cans of black smoothrite. It looks OK but isn't the same standard as blasting and powdercoating

Problem is,you only see this lot once a year when the MoT man lifts the car into the air to poke around it's undersides...
If you are building a car to park up in a field each weekend for the great unwashed to admire, and hope to win a cabinet full of trophies
,powdercoating will give a 'wipe clean' surface ideal for your needs. If,on the other hand, you intend to drive the thing, smoothrite or similar paint that you can brush on will give a decent enough finish, that will clean with the aid of a wellplaced hosepipe.
