Cabbie Hood Adjustment Aaaaargh

Just got a replacement hood and carefully noted the number of shims in each bolt etc - put new hood on and its miles out - hitting at the front - took all shims out loosened bolt nearly out of the nut and just getting it down - is there a step by step guide anywhere as I feel I am making a schoolboy error?

Adit has the dvd for sale , on the dvd it explains how to shim this up, you need to lift the rubber and then place a bar across the car (form approx where the hing for the roof frame bolts down, you then measure the distance from the bottom of the bar to the base (where the roof holds into) and from memory it needs to be 181mm sorry have not explained it very well but the video shows you this, and how to centre the frame , fir roof and edjust windows to stop leaking . I got mine for £9 .

these were the instructions I started from but I have never included pics....try writing the piece and uploading it .....did one about the rear windows already ..there must be an easy way though.I found it all a bit convoluted

I am sure I have a pdf of the full roof refit and reset ..will have look this evening when I get back home

Willnz - what am I taking the measurement from at the top? - Just spent a couple of hours - got it to open and close perfectly - with the horseshoe up - as soon as i put the horseshoe down the roof hits at the front

Thanks guys - managed to get it....almost after a further 3 hours - I took all of the shims out of the front and rear and still couldnt get the 181?
Started from scratch - no shims anywhere tightened up - closed it .....hit at the front.
Added shims to the front bolts to raise the height which pulled the roof back at the front - when almost there I added shims to the horizontal bolt which pulled it back to let it close properly.

Feels a bit stiff - after celebrating at midnight with a bottle of beer and a few pats on the back - I realised that the passenger door window is catching by about 5 mm

Ill have a look at wiki and see if I can adjust.

My cab roof appears to be sitting too high at the rear...



When opening and closing, the rear cover hits on the metal supports.

Is this a shim adjustment jobbie or the rear hex screws?

They don't seem to tighten 'into' anything if you get what I mean??

They push against the other part of the arm and either allow it to drop more or raise it up to sit like yours does. However, it could be a shim job. If the frame is set too high, it will also look like yours, and no amount of adjusting the hex screws will help.

If the cover is hitting the frame on the way up or down, it could be the bar needs adjusting or your microswitches are out of adjustment. Dave posted a link to a manual some time ago, you need to download it and check the section on the auto top, it clearly explains how to do the switch and rod adjustments.

I will take a couple of pics just now to explain the hex adjustment.

If you look on the inside of the frame in the rear where the frame hinges you will see two rubber grommets (one at each side) pull this out and you will see the receptor for an Allen key ...screw in to push the back down screw in to raise

I did try, but admittedly this made little difference.

I'm assuming the hood should sit absolutely flat on the rear with no visible gaps underneath.

I suspect it is a case of a full on hood adjustment with the shims etc.
