Hi all, i'm new to this forum but not to E30s. Currently got an '89 325i sport. The OBC works, because it has alerted me that a headlight bulb is not working and that my washer fluid level is low. However, upon turning my car off and removing the key and turning off all electrics the little red lights on the check control remain on. In fact the only way to get them off is to disconnect my battery! Upon reconnecting my battery the check lights return without the car even being turned on. Upon solving the problem, such as topping up the washer fluid, and reconnecting the battery, the check light will turn off. While the problem seems cosmetic the lights actually drain the battery when the car is off, as I have learned the hard way this winter. This must be something simple.

First point, this isn't an OBC - that fits where the analogue clock is.
You're talking about the check control system. Only fault I've ever had with one of these was when one light stayed on constantly. Cured by changing the whole unit in the roof.
Didn't bother to repair that unit because I had a spare, but I expect the fault ( and probably yours too), was a failure of one of the many small diodes inside.
Your best bet is to aquire one from a scrapyard, or borrow one from another E30 owner. Thet unclip easily.

I have a spare available, PM me if you'd like it.

Cheers,

Dave.
