Hello all,

I have a 1986 325i with enough miles on the clock to mean that that the drivers seat has a few holes in it. Is it possible to simply swap the base/bottom part rather than the entire seat?

Thanks in advance,

Very easy! The back is held onto the base by two cross head screws about 2/3 of the way down at the sides (once you've removed the back panel). Once these are removed the back just slides off of two "spikes".
Disconnect the rear legs of the seat from the base, remove the plastic covers from the hinge mechanisms, pull out the two little pieces that slide into the centre of the hinge tube, lift up a spring latch, rotate the entire adjuster mechanism and lift it off. Remove both from your old seat and the new one, and fit the ones from the driver's seat to your ex passenger seat.
The only thing that won't be "right" is the position of the 'over and back' lever under the seat. but this is arguably better in its new position anyway!
