"Better" E30s have a panel by the interior mirror which has a series of red LEDs to monitor various bulb filaments and fluid levels in the engine.

there is a website i found that says which coulou wire relates to what, you have to wire into the boot and crimp each wire individully the the correct ones coming from the light cluster, sounds more complicated than it is!
both facelift and pre have check computer??

Helps a lot! All tourings are post facelift, and four pots don't have check panels.jollygreen wrote:its a 318 touring if that helps?
Wires are all in the LH cubby hole.
Earth point is at the base of the C pillar, facing backwards, just above the wheel arch.
Grey/purple = fog = 12N blue
Grey/white = RH tail light = brown
Grey/yellow = LH tail light = black
Green/red = brakes = red
Blue/black = RH indicator = green
Blue/red = LH indicator = yellow
To be legal, you should also replace the three pin indicator relay on the steering column with a four pin version, connect the fourth pin to a 12 volt bulb fitted in the "trailer warning light" position on the instrument cluster, and connect the other side of the bulb to earth.

bloody marvelous cheers for your time!
Brian: What a mine of information you truely are.
I should of posted up a couple of weeks ago when i was sorting out my birds nest of scotchlocks for the towbar.
Incidently is there likely to be provision in the intsrument cluster for this forth wire you speak of?
If my memory serves the eathing will be taken care of by the bulb holder??
Is the 4 pin relay Number 7 on this Real OEM page?
And i'm guessing its not a standard sort of relay so best to buy from BMW??
Thanks for looking.
Cheers
Chris

Trailer warning light position is between the fog light warning and the first green service LED. Its just a serrated hole at the back, the same as the ABS position, with no electrics associated with it at all. A bulb holder from either of the ashtrays fits it.
The 4 pin indicator relay is a fairly standard item, available from various sources. I know a couple of mine are made by Hella.
The one on your link is the genuine BMW article, which strangely, appears to be cheaper than the standard three pin one!
