i have a 318i e30 auto which needs the valves looking at coz the tapping is doing my brain in now, but the article i looked at earlier on the site does not cover 318i's or M3's. can anyone help, please ????

318's have self adjusting hydraulic tappets, if they make a noise then it means they need replacing. Not a cheap job unfortunately.

Are you absolutely certain it's the valves and not the usual E30 injector din? :mad:

Try changing your engine oil to a good quality 15W/40 or 15W/50.

Talking of oil, are you sure you've got plenty in there, I remember when I had my 318i and it got very tappy, I checked the oil and there was hardly any in there :lol:

HI pull the Rocker cover off and inspect the camshaft for wear, also the rocker fingers under the cam, you will prob' find the thing worn out 8O
