I was looking on the internet for information on the blue temp sensor and ICV for the M42 engine on an E30 but can't find it. Can anyone tell me the locations of these on the M42?

Thanks,
Kevin

ICV is on the back of the engine, bolted to the rocker cover.

Brown & blue temp sensors are mounted on the head beneath the inlet manifold.

Parts 6 & 8 in the link.

Part 6 = Brown sender (Temperature gauge)
Part 8 = Blue sensor (Temperature feedback to ECU)

Thanks guys. Guess you need to remove the inlet manifold to get proper access?

Can you check that the blue temp sensor is working correctly by checking resistance across the terminals? I have have a cold start problem that I haven't had the chance to get near and plan to look into it soon. Cold idle is hunting between about 800rpm and 1500rpm until car is up to temperature, then it idles fine.

You don't need to remove the manifold iirc. You can check the reisitance with a meter. Do a search and you'll eventually find the settings.
