car juddering whilst driving every now and then

i was driving my car yesterday and it started juddering as ifit had ran out of fuel for a little bit but then picked up and drove as normal again, itdid this twice and i new i wasnt out of petrl on both ocasions as the light was not on. i did run out of petrol a day or 2 befor this happened though, and was wondering could it be that the fuel filter is clogged up?

any help is much appreciated

This happened before to my dads 318i and it was his petrol pump relay i think he said or sumin like that

Could be the petrol pump that is on the way out.
