Car won't start, which pins do I use to check starter?

My 325i Touring died 2 days before I got my M3!!
She was going fine, I stopped for 5 mins, then lights but no action!

Which pins do you put a wire between to check the starter motor?

I tried shorting across the terminals, which only caused the solenoid to spin (not engage).

Any other advice? I have to get her going so I can sell her and use the money for petrol for the M3!!!

You bridge between the upper large terminal on the starter solenoid which connects directly to the battery and the smaller one on the side of the solenoid

Naughty! Big sparks and damaged bolt threads!
14 and 11 on the diagnostic socket.
