Have just took the battery earth lead off for 5 minutes, re-connected and now the car will start but stall straight after. Engine will run if revved but not tick over at all, it was fine before i disconnected the battery. Any ideas anyone?

Maybe you have disturbed an electrical connection in that area, one that may be already corroded, why did you take the earth off in the first place?

Idle control valve? Sounds like it may have stuck in closed position or the connector has a bad contact. Check if it is buzzing with the ignition on. If thats ok it may need cleaned with carb cleaner the oil very lightly with machine oil.

It's probably just scrambled the software settings in the ECU.
Run it for a while, and it will probably relearn.
