Wheel spacer question

I've got a big brake conversion so need spacers for the front wheels to clear the calipers. . . My question is do I need to put spacers on the rears to keep the front to rear track the same ? ? ? . . .


These are the spacers I'm looking to put on the front . . . these are 15mm but they also do a 20mm . . . If I put 15mm on the front and 20mm on the back what would this do to handling, would it make any improvement on just 15mm on the front or is it best to put 15mm front and rear ?

not really no, if ur front wheels are wider than ur rear, it will make the rear end a tad unstable in the rain on roundabouts but it wont botjher ur tracking as there all still FACING the same way

I'd be interested to here how they compare. I was once advised that widening the front track relative to the rear would reduce understeer, and have yet to play with spacers. What brakes do you have?

I recently brought a set of these and tbh they arent that good quality,they dont seen to fit snug over the hub and there is still vibration at speed,(not much but its there)

i would try the second set thats been posted.

if you put spacers on the rear no doubt it will catch the arches,you can either have the arches rolled or drop a size in tyre width,ie,205 down to 195

let us know how you get on with them.

Thanks for the offer to collect However I put the order in this afternoon, the company I got them through are based in Bridgewater ! . . .

Interesting that the ones you are looking at are 20mm. On these ones you bolt through the wheel and spacer to the hub, whereas the ones from the company I got mine from have the spacer bolting to the hub and the wheel bolting to the spacer (only on the 20mm spacers, the 15mm ones are normal)


Talking to the woman there it seems like they are the main dealer of this type. There is another company selling exactly the same product for about £8 more

She seems to know what she's talking about and certainly knows what she has in stock. Had a little chat with her while getting the order processed and it turns out they are a garage that prepare rally cars and sell rally type stuff . . .

The brakes were already on the car when I got it, they are the Audi TT Disc/BMW750 Caliper combo. It had 10mm spacers on it but they didn't seem to be quite big enough to get proper clearance plus the standard spigot isn't long enough to protrude through the spacer to the wheel (thanks goes to Dave 318 for the idea to go looking for these )

Didn't see this till after I put the order in . . . Will see now how I get on with the ones I ordered . . .

The car has had 16 inch 225's on the rear at some stage and think the arches have already been rolled, but, if a wider front track reduces understeer then I will leave them as standard . . . Its an m30b35 so needs all the help it can get to get the front in

Just ordered the same as you from bridgewater. 20mm will make the rears on mine et 15, but there's heaps of tuck at the moment, so it will work. If not, there's always Golf MK2 arches or major rolling flaring!

Why the change from the ones you posted ? . . .

20mm with longer bolts doesn't seem safe. Most other companies use the bolt to hub, bolt to wheel setup over 15mm (just researched this)

Should be better as they bolt onto the hubs.
