Just installed my new K&N panel filter, but its not a tight fit like the original air filter. Seems a little small. I tried to centre it as best as possible before closing the airbox. Is this the way they are supposed to be?

8) i just bought one of them for meself last week. i took out my whole air box to make sure it went in the TOP part properly, after doing it i realized it couldnt have been done any other way. you have to loosen the jubilee clip on the right side of the box that connects the air meter to the throttle body, then undo your two nuts on the side of the box to get it loose, undo your electrical connector for the air meter, and the two clamps that hold the bundle of wires tight to the side and it pulls right out. while its out give it a good clean out, and personally i took at the horn that was in the top part of the box, it just unclips and comes right out, so if you want to put it back in again it easy. when you've got your box out, take it apart and turn the top part upside down and the filter will fit in real nice, then put the bottom part back on and fasten the clips, turn it up the right way and chuck it back in. if you have any questions give me a pm and i'll get back to you. hope this helps.
confusion is my middle name. but i drive me a damn nice car!!

Yeah theres no lip like on the normal paper filters, it only fits in the top, i got mine in by taking out all the clips and balancing the filter onto of the bottom bit then plonking the top of the airbox in!

Thanks for the feedback. I tried to centre the filter and hold in place with one hand while I was replacing the top half of the air filter housing. I checked on the K&N website and this filter seems to be for BMWs only so you would have thought they would get the profile of the rubber edge a bit more exact. Waiting now for the POR-15 products I ordered from Frost to get my rust spots sorted!
