After getting new frotn wings and rear arches last year, now the sills (which had been perfect for 4 years at that point) are becoming see-through.

My body-shop man says that, to fit new ones properly, is a massive job as they have to be welded on properly now, not just spotted, and coudl be Ԛ£300 a side.

He said this wasn't worth it, that he coudl repair the ones I've got, so they'd be OK for years - does this sound about right to ayone?

Ive been told you can spot weld them on! (as long as the gap between the welds isn't big enough to get a flat screwdriver in the gap)

your better off getting patches put on anyway.

I didnt think the whole sill would go at the same time. Usually the jack pionts go first... it then fails its MOT test and you fix it.
For the whole sill to be rusted away to nothing, is unusual as it should have been caught by the MOT station.

Im pretty sure from memory that as long as the new sills are fitted in the same way as the factory(a complete sill) ie spot welds in the correct place then that is fine, but any repairs/patches must be seam welded to maintain the structural integrity of the sill.
Hope this helps a little

That's how I understand it as well. But before the new MOT system is up and running, MOT fail points are not recorded, so as long as the repair is invisible, it is possible to get away with anything.
