Hi All,

Right, getting into the new year now and it's time to sort out the track car - hasn't started since abingdon airfield late last year.

Reason - think it's that the flywheel key slot got dislodged. (think only pre-facelifts have this key slot for spark timing, later models do it differently)

Question - is there an appropriate stock flywheel from a different e30 that has the key slot but is a bit lighter?

Thought I might as well make the most of the opportunity, if not I'll swap like for like..

Thanks for any info!

the best thing for you to do is upgrade to the facelift system with the crank sensor on the front of the engine it much better than the older style you have

hmm, that would involve changing wiring looms and ecu etc wouldn't it? Would be quite in depth and expensive compared to swapping the flywheel?..

but it would be much more reliable and wouldnt involve taking the gearbox off in the cold all the bits you need i have except for the ecu but you can find them on here regular enough

Only the prefacelift 325i flywheel will work, not a bad shout changing over to the later management as it would be a right pain if the pick up broke off again.

Well i guess it would be easy enough to see what I have to swap if I had all the parts there ready. So there's an 'unused' place for the crank position senser to go somewhere on the front of the engine like on newer cars?

and how much would you want for said components??

I don't have the parts but for a loom, ecu, cps and bracket and then various different bits which have different connectors (oil pressure switch and oil level sender spring to mind) I think about £80-£100 would be about right. Might also be worth swapping the giant prefacelift starter motor to the smaller facelift type whilst you're doing all this (though not by any means necessary)

The parts you want can all come from a 320, as long as you change the 'chip' in the ECU.
£80 - £100 should buy you all the bits you need, still attached to a 2 litre engine, still fitted to an E30.
Infinitely more simple job than changing the flywheel, and will give yo a better car than before, instead of just returning you to where you were!
