Actually changing the pump is quite straightforward, but use new crush washers on the banjo joints, and THOUROUGHLY flush out all the old fluid, then do it again.
To empty the rack of fluid (and to bleed it), you have to turn the steering wheel from full lock to full lock several times.

I did this the other week, its pretty simple... if i can do it anyone can

Jack up the car and place on axle stands. Remove Cap on PAS fluid Reservior. Undo Banjos and drain fluid from system (turning wheels several times to empty rack of fluid)

Unbolt Pump, remove. Check belt for wear. Replace if needed. Fit new pump and belt making sure belt tension is good.

Bolt banjos into new pump using new crush washers as brian says (these are literally pennys from dealers)

Making sure all bots on banjo and pump are tight and in place, top up fluid to the max using dipstick on the cap as a gauge (Dexron 2 (II) Automatic Transmission Fluid - Its cheap from all car spares/even halfords has this stuff for £6/£7 a litre - You will need 1.7ltrs, so buy 2 1lt bottles to fill the system and have a little left over for top up).

With engine OFF turn wheels lock to lock roughly 4 or 5 times. check fluid level. top up to max. repeat this until the fluid level no longer drops.

Once system is fully topped up. with car still up on axle stands. Make sure car is out of gear and start the engine, not revving it, just letting it idle.

Turn wheels lock to lock 4 or 5 times, check fluid level, top up where needed and repeat until no more fluid is being bled.

If you throughly want to flush the system, undo banjo bolts again, drain as before, redo up banjo, refill as before with fresh fluid. (Fluid is cheap pumps and racks arent - wise words of Brian)

Lower car down off axle stands. Make sure PAS fluid cap is firmly screwed down. and take for test drive.

This is how i did it.

Only thing to add to that, is that, if you are going to flush it, don't use the new crush washers on the pump inlet until you refit the banjo for the final time.
