Coolant in Passenger footwell. Should I go the whole hog?

It looks like I'll be replacing the heater matrix or the heater matrix valve shortly - the passenger footwell is pretty soggy with coolant and the car is emptying the expansion tank every 500 miles or so.

Is it worth looking at fitting aircon at this point? How much would I be needing to budget to get it set up with modern gas/oil etc?

I thought about this with my LHD 325 when i was in germany as the parts for it where all over the place and at a good price.
The reason id didnt was because if its on the old system,R12 it cant be topped up and it cant be topped up with R134A as you need a differant compressor, if you could find the right kit you could do it but its a lot of messing around, pulling the dash about and so on! :D

Air con just seems to be an additional liability as far as I'm concerned

Just a thought before you condem the heater matrix/valve,the cooling system is running at the correct pressure? New pressure cap is a damn sight easier to fit.... :mad:
