Are there different size drive shafts?

I'm in the process of changing my rear bearings (325i Touring), and the nut that came with the bearing (from Euro car parts) is larger than the one I took off!!? :?

It actually fits over the end of the shaft!!

are you saying the nut is too thick or too big a diameter and therefore the thread doesn't grip?

I think there were some cars with thinner shafts where the wheel bearing sits, maybe non disc rear axled cars I'm not sure?

The diameter is larger on the new nut, it fits over the shaft easily.

The box says 318 - 320 (IIRC) but it's defo the same bearing! :?

Thread is a bit knackered, so it would've been helpful to use new nut. Looks like I'm gonna have to find a big-ass tap and die set now!!
