Oh ffs, so the little cash ive got left may be spent on a hub that wont worknickso wrote:careful, i believe there are two different sizes of disc hubs, i just dont know why yet.

Ive seen different bearings listed for ABS/Non-ABS cars?
well, thats how eurocarparts list em!
Hell, at this rate I may just take my hub off and have a go at tapping it from the otherside to see if I can get the facking thread sorted.

well dont be too disheartened, my theory has been roundly dismissed as the ravings of a lunatic so far.
i cant read the part numbers properly so i cant even prove it is off an e30 but i dont think any thing else uses e30 trailing arms so i dont see how it cant be. i also dont know if the difference is between abs/non abs, pre/post facelift or 320/325.
i reckon the easy way to spot the difference is by checking the size of the driveshafts on the donor car with the ones on your car. if they are the same size then you probably will be ok. my odd set are a few mil different in diameter.

I think the ABS hubs are bigger, but my 320 touring has the bigger hubs and No ABS, the wheel bearings are also different sizes...

With my car having no ABS I bought a non-ABS bearing.
As for getting the old bearing out, once the circlip is out then just smack it, it's already buggered once the drive flange is out so just go for it
You will need some threaded bar, nuts, washers and a big socket to wind the flange back in so it doesn't push the back/inner race out of the new bearing.
Here’s the best tip I can give you though, leave the new bearing in the freezer over night before you fit it and you could also warm the arm a bit with a blow-torch, makes it much easier to fit

Ive seen different sized bearings listed but would of thought it was disc/drum differences

just measure the hub before you buy it, abs should be 52mm outer diameter on the machined part, non abs is 48 iirc.FreddieS wrote:Im just getting a bit wound up, want to drive the damn car, going to get it up on the drive and get my hub out, and re-tap it!

I wonder wtf thats all about then, abs/none abs terms are also used for listing brake hoses when all it really means is drum/disc brakesnickso wrote:yep, both off disc arms that i stripped myself.DanThe wrote:Those are both from disc brakes?

Need some tips, been trying to get the hubnut off with no such luck, ive got it so the hub doesnt spin but i cant break it with my airgun or the largest breaker bar ive got, any tips on how to get the fecker off?

Is it really secured so the hub isn't moving or is keeping the hub still half the problem?
Have you tried some heat on it perhaps? Or maybe you can find something silly long to go over the breaker bar?
Maybe you've done that lot but worth a mention.

Cant quite get teh hub out, am I not doing somethign thats vital to getting it out? i can near enough push the driveshaft's output shaft out the otherside (well not all the way) would it make removing the hub easier if i were to remove the driveshaft completely?

Yes you need to undo the 6 bolts holding the driveshaft to the diff's output flange and remove the shaft compleetly, be careful not to let the shaft hang on the outer CV joint though, the rubber boot will probably be a bit fragile and mine split
took me 3 days to drive my old bearings out of my arms, with them off the car, in the end i got a thick threaded bar with some sod off washers. and some blocks of iron, set the bars up, wound the torque up until i could feel the thread on the bar about to turn into chocolate and smacked it with a sledge hammer to release it. they can be fucing stiff without a bearing press. i manage to twist i 1inchx1inch steel bar with the toque i put on the sod off breaker bar i was using to wind up the sod off bit of threaded bar.
