had a noticeable tappet noise on mine for the last few weeks getiing much worse in the last few days up to wednesday when i started taking it to bits to find out what it was.
left the head on took the rad out etc. and got the shaft out thru the front.

bearing in mind i have refurbed the head on my 325i engine before i stuck it in my 320i touring..... and all the rockers were minty mint 10 months ago....... how does just 1 of them get like this???

replace it, I'd say there was too much pressure on that rocker causing it to wear, were your valve tolerances good? I heard to have them slightly loose was better my 2.7 used to tap all the time but never had any issues
Bollocks to this 24v scrap!

i set them all properly with my feelers. who knows!
anyway built it back up this morning changed the oil and filter...... its back to sounding lovely again.
gave it a good thrash round the block after to remind me why i love my 325i.

Looks like the hardened section has fallen off (or was made of chees), are you sure its not rattling around in there still ?

When you rebuilt the head did you change the oil spray bay? Looks like lack of oil feed to that rocker TBO.

Gaszman, That sounds like a rocker worn to me. I'd whip the cam cover off and check the cam lobes from marking.
