When I turn the engine off in my 325i Touring, the Rev counter creeps up to 1000 rpm, and the mpg swings over to 30-40 mpg!! :?

Have I got a Ghostrider, or is it sign of impending doom!??

never heard of this before....i can only think its a symptom of dead or dying SI batteries why not change em and see if it still does it?

The version of the SI board with lithium batteries (not normally known for causing problems when/if they go flat) is known for developing a minor fault in the form of a 'kick' in the rev counter, shortly after the ignition is turned off. It's possible that your problem could be an extension of this.
Either way, it's likely to be SI board related, whether you have the NiCd version or the lithium.

Odometer is easily changed to whatever mileage you want (and frequently has been!)

Mine has kicked for the entire 4 years I've had the car. A few weeks ago to did stick at 1k rpm a couple of times.
Good to know I'm not the only one. :)
This is why I no longer drive an E30......

+1 I did once hear there is no such thing as an economical BMW. But i thought 30 mpg whilst the car was sat on the drive and the keys in my pocket was a tad unfair.

Hmm! It's beginning to look like the lithium powered version of the SI board isn't as trouble free as I thought it was!

My old 1988,325 kicked every time i turned the engine off.I had the car for 5 years,i'd even changed the SI Batteries.Never had a problem.

My new 87 325 Cab does the same thing.I don't think its anything to worry about.
